The rites of spring

Ah, spring—the perfect time to be inspired by a zing green glove and a flowered hat!

Vogue, March 1943, John Rawlings photo

It’s also time for that annual rite of spring, the Vintage Fashion Guild’s Vintage Inspiration. I have been working on this project since 2007, so you might say I’m an inspiration veteran. Many thanks to the VFG Site Committee and all the members of the VFG who participated with their fabulous items.

2013 Fall Vintage Inspiration

Happy Fall! Happy? Well, yes, even though I hate to see the summer exiting. This is my neighborhood in a month or so, making it all worthwhile:

and besides, I really like vintage coats and jackets.
New Yorker cartoon by Victoria Roberts

Then, there is that annual Rite of Autumn, the Vintage Fashion Guild’s Vintage Inspiration. I have been working on this bi-annual collection since 2007, always trying a little something new.

This fall, as usual, we chose modern trends inspired by vintage fashion, and collected vintage items that our members have for sale. What’s new is that each of these themes include 25 clickable links to items for sale. It’s like the VFG’s fall pop-up shop with more than ever to be inspired by and/or purchase. I created the graphics for it, and looking at these items pretty well melted me in the process.

I truly crave this orange and green houndstooth coat from the 1940s, in the Ruby Lane shop of The Vintage Merchant. Wouldn’t it look smashing with my neighborhood fall leaves?

and while you’re shopping for me on Ruby Lane wink I certainly would not say no to this gorgeous necklace by the great Miriam Haskell, in the shop of Marzilli Vintage. It would also look lovely with autumn, don’t you think?

Spring has arrived at the Vintage Fashion Guild!

I am a member of the Vintage Fashion Guild, and one of the co-chairs of the VFG’s site committee. This committee puts together a fall and spring tribute to the vintage influences on modern fashion, a feature we call Vintage Inspiration.

Well, spring is here, and so is Spring 2013 Vintage Inspiration!

This is my layout and writing I'm—well, yes—proud to say, but the visuals would not be possible without the fabulous items of VFG members. This time there is everything from an antique Battenberg bridal veil to mod 60s stripes.

As of the date of publication, all the vintage items shown are for sale—Think of this as a pop-up boutique from the members of the VFG!

Fall has arrived at the Vintage Fashion Guild!

...and once again, we are presenting Vintage Inspiration, our collection of vintage clothing and accessories chosen with current trends in mind.

If you’ve taken even a quick glance at any September fashion magazine or looked at runway roundups, you will see these trends. Modern designers have been influenced by vintage styles again, but you can have the originals! As of today, everything in Vintage Inspiration is for sale.

This feature is my design, and I want to acknowledge the great work of the VFG Site Committee, especially my co-chair Mary (The Vintage Merchant).

Spring has arrived at the Vintage Fashion Guild

Each spring and fall the VFG puts together a collection of vintage items that seem to be the inspirations for current trends. We call it, appropriately enough, Vintage Inspiration. This spring we decided to make all the items shown be available, so you can click on any item to be taken to that seller's site. Think of it as a vintage catalog for spring!

Fall in Style at the Vintage Fashion Guild

Vintage Inspiration is here, and the news is that vintage is more and more inspiring!

Once again this fall designers are inspired by vintage fashion including the dash of the 40s and the pop of the 60s. Runway trends of velvet and shades of wine red are great for style seekers with a love for authentic vintage.

Click on the photo above for links to the pages of this feature.

Many thanks to the members of the VFG Site Committee for their work in putting this feature together. I'm the co-chair along with Mary of The Vintage Merchant. The other members working on this were Amy of Viva Vintage Clothing, Cat of Club Vintage Fashions, Linn of Linn's Collection and Sharon of Living Doll Vintage—and thanks to all the members of the VFG for their great photos interpreting modern trends. Big thanks to VFG member Christine Anderson of yumyumphoto.com for the opening photo, inspiration for the design.

Spring has arrived at the Vintage Fashion Guild!

Have you ever noticed how often new fashions are inspired by vintage style? The VFG notices, and showcases members’ items that illustrate the vintage inspirations for modern looks.

This spring we’ve cheered a continuing love affair with fit-and-flare, and the 1970s could not be more back. Line up some vintage stripes for a graphically current look, and look right in white from all eras.

Many thanks to the members of the VFG Site Committee for their work in putting this feature together. I'm the co-chair along with Mary of The Vintage Merchant. The other members working on this were Debbie of Catseye Vintage, Linn of Linn's Collection and Sharon of Living Doll Vintage—and thanks to all the members of the VFG for their great photos interpreting modern trends.
